Write That Ebook!

Basically anyone who can type can be a writer if can manage to stay focused. Ebooks are the big thing now and usually they are much cheaper than physical books. A regular computer book might go for $75 while an ebook with the same information can be $25. Does the money sound good to you? Well, if so, write your own Ebook! If you are interested in earning a good amount of money on the internet, marketing ebooks is not a bad way to go.

How to start off and write your Ebook

1)  Revisit your old grammar days. Brush up on your sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation skills. Even if that means doing some research online so that you can write properly. Read as much as possible and study other people’s writing styles. It can open up more options for you and also let you see through the eyes of other writers.

2) Make an outline. This is one of the most effective ways to see what you’re going to write and edit it. Creating an outline is what every rich author has done in their past. It is a tried and true way to write a great book.

3) Be willing to do research on your topic, even if you think you know it all.  It never hurts to know more then you already did, in actuality it will just give you more life knowledge. Knowledge is power, as I’m quite sure you’ve heard?

4) Get a price in mind. Many people want to charge exorbitant amounts for relatively little information. They might make a few sales, but not many. Try giving more information while charging a lower price. The price may indeed be lower, but you will likely get more buyers for your product! Tons of buyers when your ebook is low-priced is better than only a few buyers when it’s high-priced.It goes without saying that you’ll want to put as much valuable information as you can into your ebook. If you make the purchase worth your reader’s time, he or she will be more likely turn to you for more information in the future.

5) Write the Ebook. Be sure to incorporate any necessary photos as well. Even citing resources can be great, because you are giving them more bang for the buck. Your customers want to feel like you were the one getting ripped off, not them. So while writing your Ebook, put a lot of effort into it, as well as make sure that it makes sense! Don’t go too far away from your chosen topic. People hate that. It will likely get you bad reviews.

6) Try and get a little help. After you are done with the writing, go to sleep. The following day or a few days later, get down to the editing. If you do immediately, you will probably end up overlooking a lot errors. It’s not a bad idea to get a little professional help with the editing and revisions. Your content is very important, and how it is written is just as important as what’s being written. If your readers are unable to follow, or the book doesn’t flow well, it’s kind of a waste of your time.

It’s possibly that you have heard of public domain publishing as a pathway to making money online and it works great but today,  I want to tell you about a twist on that idea that can have you bringing in extra income almost right away.

First, though, the basics. As you might know, many books and other works have gone into the public domain (fallen out of copyright protection) and can be republished, in any form, by anyone who undertakes to do so. In the U.S. most works published through 1923 are now considered to be public domain (”PD”).

If you uncover a PD book you believe others would buy if it were republished, you could reprint it as a physical book and sell copies on eBay, Amazon or your own web site. Some enterprising individuals have done this with old correspondence courses and other non-fiction, how-to type materials from years ago.

Alternatively, you could format your PD discovery as an e-book and make it available for people to download, for a price. This is probably the more usual way that people are bringing in money now from the public domain.Again, how-to, self-improvement and other non-fiction works will prove to be the most profitable.

Now about that little twist I mentioned.  The method I prefer is to make PD books freely available on the web, and place advertising on their pages. Strictly speaking, then, you are selling ad space, not the book itself.

A few years a guy named Steve Smith heard about an interesting book from 1892 that combined a time-travel tale with a story about golf. Its title was Golf In the Year 2000.

Afer a bit of looking, he was able to find a copy of the book for just $10. He scanned the pages, converted them with opitcal character reading software, and posted the whole book to a site he had registered specifically for that purpose.

Then he took it the next step. On his site’s pages, he surrounded the book’s text with Google AdSense and affiliate merchant ads. This enabled him to make money from visitors clicking the AdSense or buying things. By the way, if you’re curious you can view his site at www.golf-in-the-year-2000.com.

Steve’s online edition of Golf In the Year 2000 attracts a steady flow of golf enthusiasts, science fiction fans, Victorian literature lovers and the simply curious, he says. And the ads on his pages bring him money!

I’m certain this is something that many other people could copy. Public-domain sources are abundant nowadays.  You might be able to find a suitable book in one of the many web-based PD collections, preferably something that not many other people have discovered yet.

The good thing about this idea is that the book you showcase (and use to earn ad revenue) need not be restricted to non-fiction or how-to.  As with Steve’s weird little golf/science fiction find, it can just be something that will attract visitors to your web site, for the sheer novelty if nothing else.

You could also look in used-book stores to try to find something rare enough not to have made it to the Internet at all.  In that case you will probably need to buy a scanner and some OCR software to get the text into your computer.

Public domain publishing is indeed a potentially lucrative area.Further, how you “repurpose” your public domain finds is completely up to you.  That’s what makes it so fun, as well as profitable.

This method of publishing public domain material is described at some length in this article, along with recommendations for further reading.

If you are interested in selling actual used books online, as on Amazon or eBay, there’s a downloadable report available that shows a new and mega-profitable way to do it.  Check it out here or read an excellent review of it at Can You Still Make Money Selling Used Books on Amazon?

When it comes to the sale of ebooks there are arguments indicating the purchase of ebooks may see a lower conversion rate than other retail products. The conversion rate for ebooks is equivalent to one ebook purchase for every 200 visitors.

The argument seems to be that the sale of ebooks may be a waste of time in an online business environment. I would argue that the sale of ebooks in an online store might be more of the equivalent of found money than a poor business decision.

The reason this is true follows a rather simple form of logic; you simply make a title or series of titles available with an online shopping cart and password protected download form, add a little long and short term marketing strategies and, if it were a stew, you just let it simmer. It can be a tasty combination.

Unlike most online stores the sale of ebooks does not require the time intensive and expensive product fulfillment and shipping department within your business. With most products you have to package and ship a product, you have to manage ordering duties and follow through.

With an ebook sale you simply rely on a data download that is managed instantaneously. Since this is true, the online sale of ebooks may not need a high conversion rate to remain a popular and profitable online business choice.

The amount of time you can invest in other endeavors can more than make up for a lower conversion rate.

The truth is many online businesses utilize ebook sales as a form of affiliate revenue. Many business owners report positive gains in ebook sales and the end result require even less involvement than standard affiliate programs. Why? Because you, as the business owner, can purchase and resell ebook titles for a complete in-house business that can provide substantial residual income and it doesn’t require working with a separate affiliate funding source.

When it comes to successful titles the truth is ebooks are specifically geared to caterer to niche markets in most cases. What this means for you is the potential to market your site to a very specific niche of online visitors. If you chose a niche ebook, you could potentially develop and market your website with highly specific keywords that can make your website very attractive to a motivated group of online visitors.

All arguments aside, the truth is ebooks ARE selling and their popularity continues to grow. The portability of ebooks makes this a business opportunity that will continue to find motivated buyers.
