I like selling things on eBay but with all the other things I have on the go I don’t care to take the time required to buy and sell on eBay, so instead of that I find it much easier to use Build A Niche Store and sell other people’s products on eBay.

But when I started I didn’t have the money to buy anything that would make earning money online easier. Not until I had this bright idea of going through all the boxes we still didn’t unpack from our last more, more than three years ago now.

Remember one person’s trash is another’s treasure and I soon found out just how true that phrase is.

Note: I didn’t try to sell crap on eBay, just stuff we didn’t care for any longer, but it was still in good condition.

It didn’t take long, less than a week and I had enough money to do a couple of things I wanted to do.

  1. I wanted to buy my fishing supplies for the summer and made enough to do that and buy my rather expensive fishing license for the season along with a new fishing rod and reel, fishing supplies and some lures and fishing line.
  2. I was also able to buy a couple of pieces of software that I had been drooling over, the most important for this post was the script for Build A Niche Store, where I would be able to promote products from eBay categories.

Purchasing and using the Build A Niche Store script was a great investment. With just a little work on the pages you want to promote the most you can have your own unique eBay sales pages and be earning money will you are doing other things.

Take a look at Build A Niche Store for yourself and I am sure you will get just as excited as I did. It’s great making profit selling stuff you don’t even own and there is no stocking or shipping on your part. It’s just a win-win situation.

Ankur Bhardwaj asked:

If you have been selling ebooks with resell rights on eBay for some time, then it is likely that you adopt a method similar to many ebook sellers. You source cheap or free ebooks with resell rights and then resell these in your eBay store.

Now there is nothing wrong with this method. It means that obtaining the ebooks is cheap or even free, you don’t have to spend time creating a product and a lot of the time you even get a ready made sales page and download page. For next to no money, you have a digital product that can be sold again and again, for very little effort. I used to rely solely on this method when reselling ebooks on eBay and achieved reasonable success with it. I even wrote a newsletter article last year on sourcing free ebooks that can be resold on eBay. To this day I still resell other people’s ebooks in my eBay store. However, the difference is that I now also create and sell my own resaleable ebooks.

Now you may be thinking; ‘Why would you want to go to all the time and effort of creating your own resaleable ebooks, which are likely to depreciate in value very quickly? Surely it is much more time and cost effective to resell ebooks that are already available with resell rights?’  If these are your thoughts then you are thinking about resaleable ebooks in the wrong way. Let me put it into perspective and hopefully change your thinking on the issue with the example below.

Let’s say for this example you are selling your own ebook and someone else’s ebook, both for £1.99 in your eBay store. Now when you sell someone else’s ebook you make £1.99 which is all well and good. However, when you sell your own resaleable ebook you make £1.99 from the sale AND after the sale you have the potential for much more. What potential you may be asking? Well let me explain below just what your own resaleable ebook can do for you.

1) Promote: - Your own ebook can be a very valuable promotional tool for your eBay store, your website or whatever else you want to promote. If you want to promote your eBay store simply write a little note such as “brought to you by http://stores.ebay.co.uk/YOUREBAYSTORE.” Or you could even write a small paragraph about your eBay store, what it sells etc, and then provide a link to it if people want to find out more. If you have your own website, write an ebook that contains similar content and of course provide a link to your website somewhere within the ebook.

As you continue to sell your ebook with resell rights, some of your customers will also start to sell it and eventually their customers will sell it too. As time goes by your ebook will continue to be distributed, creating an increasing amount of traffic - your very own viral traffic tool. The more your ebook is distributed, the greater the potential for traffic to your eBay store/website.

2) Sell your Premium Product: - If you have a premium ebook then resaleable ebooks can be used to sell it. For example, if you have a cooking recipes ebook that you have wrote containing 1000 recipes this could be your premium ebook. You could then use 10 or 20 of these recipes to create a resaleable ebook. At the end of this resaleable ebook you could leave a note such as “Want to get 1000 recipes just like this? Then Click Here” The Click Here will link to your premium ebook. If people like the recipes in your premium ebook then they are likely to go on and purchase the full 1000 recipe premium ebook.

As before the same principles apply, and as time goes by your resaleable ebook gets seen by an increasing number of readers and should generate an increasing amount of sales. Obviously, the above recipe ebook is just an example. The principles above can be applied to almost any product/genre, allowing you to use your resaleable ebook to promote and sell a premium product.

3) Sell an Affiliate Product: - If you don’t have your own premium product then the same principles from above can be used to sell a product as an affiliate. An affiliate (if you do not know) is someone who sells a product in exchange for a commission on the sale. The one thing I would recommend if you are selling products as an affiliate is to make sure that you have sampled the product before you promote it.

If you are looking for a premium ebook to promote as an affiliate then Clickbank is a good place to start. It has ebooks on almost every topic you can imagine and the commissions are as generous as 75% in some cases. All you have to do is sign up and then generate affiliate links (through Clickbank) to promote each product. If buyers click and buy through your link, you will get a commission on the sale.

I hope this article has shown you the potential creating your own resaleable ebook provides. Whereas someone else’s resaleable ebook can bring sales revenue, your own resaleable ebook can bring these plus additional sales of your premium products, extra traffic, affiliate commissions and valuable leads. I am not suggesting that you cease to sell other people’s resaleable ebooks. In fact other people’s resaleable ebooks probably still comprise the majority of my eBay store inventory. However, even one or two of your own resaleable ebooks can make a huge difference.

It’s possibly that you have heard of public domain publishing as a pathway to making money online and it works great but today,  I want to tell you about a twist on that idea that can have you bringing in extra income almost right away.

First, though, the basics. As you might know, many books and other works have gone into the public domain (fallen out of copyright protection) and can be republished, in any form, by anyone who undertakes to do so. In the U.S. most works published through 1923 are now considered to be public domain (”PD”).

If you uncover a PD book you believe others would buy if it were republished, you could reprint it as a physical book and sell copies on eBay, Amazon or your own web site. Some enterprising individuals have done this with old correspondence courses and other non-fiction, how-to type materials from years ago.

Alternatively, you could format your PD discovery as an e-book and make it available for people to download, for a price. This is probably the more usual way that people are bringing in money now from the public domain.Again, how-to, self-improvement and other non-fiction works will prove to be the most profitable.

Now about that little twist I mentioned.  The method I prefer is to make PD books freely available on the web, and place advertising on their pages. Strictly speaking, then, you are selling ad space, not the book itself.

A few years a guy named Steve Smith heard about an interesting book from 1892 that combined a time-travel tale with a story about golf. Its title was Golf In the Year 2000.

Afer a bit of looking, he was able to find a copy of the book for just $10. He scanned the pages, converted them with opitcal character reading software, and posted the whole book to a site he had registered specifically for that purpose.

Then he took it the next step. On his site’s pages, he surrounded the book’s text with Google AdSense and affiliate merchant ads. This enabled him to make money from visitors clicking the AdSense or buying things. By the way, if you’re curious you can view his site at www.golf-in-the-year-2000.com.

Steve’s online edition of Golf In the Year 2000 attracts a steady flow of golf enthusiasts, science fiction fans, Victorian literature lovers and the simply curious, he says. And the ads on his pages bring him money!

I’m certain this is something that many other people could copy. Public-domain sources are abundant nowadays.  You might be able to find a suitable book in one of the many web-based PD collections, preferably something that not many other people have discovered yet.

The good thing about this idea is that the book you showcase (and use to earn ad revenue) need not be restricted to non-fiction or how-to.  As with Steve’s weird little golf/science fiction find, it can just be something that will attract visitors to your web site, for the sheer novelty if nothing else.

You could also look in used-book stores to try to find something rare enough not to have made it to the Internet at all.  In that case you will probably need to buy a scanner and some OCR software to get the text into your computer.

Public domain publishing is indeed a potentially lucrative area.Further, how you “repurpose” your public domain finds is completely up to you.  That’s what makes it so fun, as well as profitable.

This method of publishing public domain material is described at some length in this article, along with recommendations for further reading.

If you are interested in selling actual used books online, as on Amazon or eBay, there’s a downloadable report available that shows a new and mega-profitable way to do it.  Check it out here or read an excellent review of it at Can You Still Make Money Selling Used Books on Amazon?

Ebay, Ebooks and Resell Rights

Robert Hart asked:

On the surface, it seems like eBay and the use of resell rights would be a perfect match. The ability to resell products should keep a steady flow of income coming in.

Maybe four or five years ago that was possible but competition has increased dramatically which means the days of selling resell rights products as your only source of income have pretty much disappeared.

That’s not to say that there is no money to be made from selling them. Just do not expect to get rich from it. You can either acquire them straight from eBay through other sellers or outside of it through the internet with each having its advantages and disadvantages.

If you decide to buy them from eBay, the first thing you should do is look at the completed listings. You will want to pick the products that have many green listings (which means the product has sold) instead of those that have red (which means it did not sell). You will also need to take in account the average price the product sells for, but keep in mind that price will be much lower than if you bought the product outside of eBay.

A better way of purchasing resell products is through the internet but you will have to count on spending a lot more time doing research. One of the ways to go about this is to type the keywords ‘resell or resale rights’ along with the type of product you are looking for such as ‘resell or resale rights cooking’ for cooking products. You will also want to choose products that are not yet sold on eBay as this will make your products much more attractive to potential buyers.

Once you have your products you will have to decide if you are going sell them with or without the resell rights attached. If you sell them with the rights then you might lose the exclusivity you have with the product. On the other hand, you would be able to charge more for it.

As you can see, resell rights products can be a profitable endeavor. By following the tips outlined above you should be well on your way to earning that extra income.
